Gem: Ametrine Quartz
Weight: 22.24 cts.
Size: 25.0 x 16.8 x 7.9 mm.
Color: Light Purple/Yellow Bi-color
Cut: Fantasy Cut Buff Top Pear
Here is a lovely gem! The stone has been fantasy cut to create this lovely radiant pattern. The crown of the stone is called a Buff Top, which is a cabochon, but still with faceted girdle and pavilion. In combination with the radial Fantasy cut pattern, this stone is quite stunning in hand. There are a nice mixture of colors in this stone with alternating light purple and light yellow throughout. When the 2 color mix, there are lovely Rose color flashes across the stone. Ametrine is a naturally occurring purple and yellow bi-color variety of Quartz that is formed by a unique twin law ("Brazil Law Twinning") where two separate individually colored crystals are intergrown to form an alternating "radiation" pattern of purple (Amethyst) and yellow (Citrine) triangles when viewed down the c axis. The two colors are oriented based upon their position inside the crystal to create the famous bicolor gemstones. This gem will make a stunning pendant and be just dazzling. This stone was created by Brett Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co, during January 2020. Enjoy!
*This fantasy cutting technique is a special process developed by the master jeweler and lapidary, Dalan Hargrave. He taught us to do this process and we are grateful to him every day for the gift of knowledge.*
