This is something very special! This is a completely natural pearl, collected by hand in the Sea of Cortez. The form of this pearl is know as a Keshi Pearl, meaning that it is free formed and has no nuclei. The Pearl was harvested from by a diver from a Rainbow Lip Oyster, which populate the shallows of the Sea of Cortex. This piece is from an old collection that was assembled over 40 years of diving and bartering. Natural Pearls are rare, and even more so from the market supply of cultured Pearls reducing demand. To actually find natural pearls is difficult today, and the majority of natural pearls are already collected. The Rainbow Lip Oyster has all but gone extinct from the wild, and are maintained in farm cultured beds now. In summary, this Pearl is irreplaceable. This Pearl has a satin pink appearance with a white silk luster. These are small black spot on some of the edges, making this a bi-color pearl! The Rainbow Lip Oyster naturally produces Black Pearls, but bi-color Pearls are rare for any oyster species. The formation is called “Grape Cluster” and is unique to the wild Rainbow Lip Oyster. This piece is undrilled and could be to make a fantastic pendant, or a very unique ring. I cannot say enough about these Pearls, just fabulous things! Enjoy!
