Sinhalite is a rare Borate mineral that is only found in a few places in the world. The original material was found in Sri Lanka in 1952, so it is a fairly new mineral. Gem quality material is found in the gem gravels, and well crystalized specimens are extremely rare. The mineral is fairly durable and hard, so it can be set into jewelry, which is not typical for rare minerals. However, this is a nice collectors stone. It is a dark yellow green color and nice clarity with very little inclusion. The cut is a standard round brilliant, which will set into jewelry nicely, if so desired. Enjoy!
