Here is a fantastic collector’s gemstone! Cobaltoan Calcite is a rare mineral, and only comes from a few localities around the world. The finds are as a rule small, and do not produce exceptionally large crystals. The material from Spain is by far the best for faceting, and the best color. The Solita mine in Spain is close, and the best material that came out was in the late 1970’s, so this stone is incredibly hard to replace. The chemistry is strait forward, it is Cobalt bearing Calcite, however, the color is unlike any other Calcite in the world. The color in the photographs is accurate; this material is 100% natural. There are few minerals this color and most of them are not facetable. This is a rare gem, and quite a lovely piece. Enjoy!
