This is a rare Smithsonite from Italy that is so distinctive and unique. There are few enough gem materials from Europe, and this is an exemplary material for the species. The color is as bright of a yellow that you can get in any mineral, except maybe Sulfur. The material is banded and each band has a slightly different color of yellow, and a slightly different clarity. This piece is begging to be in jewelry, and will be utterly attractive. The color comes through excellently when backlit. It looks as if it is a piece of lemon candy, though probably not quite as tasty! This piece was faceted by Brett Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co., during October 2017. Enjoy!
