Here is a pretty match pair! Iolite is one of the strongest trichroic minerals in the world. From one direction the stone rough will appear blue and from a 90 degree turn it will then appear yellow to colorless and a 90 degree turn along the 3rd axis will display a purple color. Since Iolite is Orthorombic, the rough tends to be blocky and will easily demonstrate the trichroism. This is also another benefit for faceting because the rough can be oriented to create a gem like this. This pair was oriented with the purple color face up, but with the sides being oriented perpendicular to the yellow color. This cut shows primarily purple color with flashes of yellow when moved on the hand. These stones are always desirable and will make a lovely pair of earrings. Enjoy!
