Koroit Boulder Opals are some of the most unique Opals in the world. However, this stone is quite special. This is a fingernail patterned Koroit Boulder Opal. Their growth is an improbable fluke and there are so few of these stones in the world. In the opal fields of Australia there is tectonic movement and occasionally the ground separates and becomes rubblized. In this broken rubble of Iron Stone Opal will rarely fill the voids, but occasional does. Opal tends to fill high pressure veins instead of large open rubble pockets. The Opal in these rubblized zones cools into what you see here. This piece has curved “fingernail paring” shapes of stunning Opal between shards of Iron Stone. This piece has a gorgeous pattern that is just so unique. The Opal has stunning blue, green, red flash, with that indicative purple undertone of Boulder Opal. This piece is a fantastic collector’s stone and irreplaceable, but would also make a truly one of a kind pendant! Enjoy!
