Petalite is one of those Lithium bearing minerals that has become so important of the past decade. Lithium mining production has increased significantly because of the great demand for more powerful batteries. In fact, it takes over 400 grams of pure Lithium to produce one Lithium ion car battery. Since minerals like Petalite are not pure Lithium, it takes kilos of purely Petalite to produce this quantity, and tons of a lithium rich ore body to produce that. Long story short, gem grade Petalite has been getting increasingly rarer by the day, even though the production of it is at an all-time high. This stone was mined about 10 years ago out of Brazil. The clarity of this stone is excellent nice. It has that indicative pearlescent luster that is so attractive. The cut has a glittery white appearance that is beautiful.
