Here’s a fantastic Smithsonite gem! It is a silver blue color with an overtone of green. The clarity of this stone is exceptional for Smithsonite, with no cracks or imperfections! All Smithsonite has a unique and attractive silky appearance. The silky appearance is caused by the pattern of the natural microcrystalline structure of the material. It causes the color of the stones to be more ambient. This means that these stones have a slight glow to them! This stone is over 6 carats which is astounding in this quality of material. This stone can be set into a pendant and would look exceptional with some accent stones around it! This stone was created by Brett Kosnar of Kosnar Gem Co., in May 2022.
This material is out of Choix, Mexico. The deposit has been mined out for over 20 years now, and there is little of this material left above ground. It’s a real shame considering the excellent quality this material. Smithsonite is a rare gemstone, but it loves to be cut and polished. It is has a hardness of 5.5 on the Mohs scale, making it less suitable for ring settings. We have set many Smithsonites into earrings and pendants and they are beautiful, rare and unique jewelry!
