Most people have heard of Mt. Antero in Colorado for its abundance of beautiful Aquamarine crystals (especially now with the Prospector's Show on The Weather Channel). However, fewer people are familiar with Mt.White, which is Antero's neighbor to the southeast. Both mountains are rich with Beryllium, and Mt. White is more famous for its Phenakites than its Aquamarines. Nonetheless, good quality Aquamarine crystals are found on the South Slope of Mt. White, where this gem came from. Colorado Aquamarine is challenging to obtain because the mining season is short, and everything is mined with only hand tools. Being a faceter from Colorado, I am always interested in acquiring as much of this material as I can. Still, good facet quality material is scarce even at the heart of the mining season. This stone has an ice blue color and exceptional brilliance and light return. This gem will make a fine addition to a US gemstone collection or will certainly look excellent in jewelry. Enjoy!
